THE CHALLENGE
The shopping mall is a large shopping and entertainment complex with shops added with cafes, bars, casinos, a cinema, a bowling alley, and more. It is a multifunctional center with a complex engineering system needing appropriate monitoring and maintenance. Lights, fire alarm systems, elevators, generators, and smoke dampers are not a complete list of items to be controlled.
As there are thousands of pieces of equipment running on the same grid, it is essential to manage the electrical system with automated control as well. Besides the permanent monitoring of the operating mode of engineering systems equipment and the centralized management, shopping malls need emergency prevention, improving reliability, safety, and quality of operation, and reduction of operating costs for energy resources.
The Shopping Mall had never used SCADA before. With no SCADA installed, in the morning and at night, the engineering team must come to the control panel and turn ON or OFF the motor for the Chiller system. Every 60 minutes engineers had to go to the chiller HMI to see the data on power consumption and make a manual report on the power consumption via WhatsApp.
The shopping mall management decided to try SCADA but with web-based technology to make an engineering and management team monitor and control systems from anywhere with an internet connection.

Power Efficiency Improvement. With the help of SmartICS, the inverters and PLC programming were realized to control the speed of motors in the chiller system.
Remote Monitoring and Control Convenience. SmartICS provided the remote monitoring and control of motors in the cooling tower, cooling water pump, and chilled water pump. The management team can monitor and control systems from anywhere with an internet connection and see the report of power consumption.
Management Information Accessibility. Due to the web-based configuration, SmartICS provides on-site, remote, and cloud server-to-client interactions thus improving accessibility to the power consumption efficiency information for management.
Operational Efficiency. With real-time monitoring and control capabilities through the web, operational teams can respond quickly to changes or disturbances in the system. Maintained operational and long-term statistical records and analysis help to prevent emergencies in the future and improve processes thus increasing profitability, relevance in the market, and operational excellence.
